Where Do Downloaded Videos Go? iPhone, Android, PC
The single most common "it did not work" message we get is from people whose download worked perfectly. The file is there, it is just not where they expected. Here is exactly where each device puts it, and how to move it somewhere useful.
On Android, videos go to the Downloads folder. On iPhone, Safari saves to the Files app under Downloads, not Photos, so open Files, tap and hold the video, and choose Save to Photos. On Windows and Mac it goes to your browser's Downloads folder.
iPhone and iPad
This is where nearly all the confusion happens. Safari saves downloads into the Files app, under Downloads on My iPhone. It does not go into Photos, because iOS only puts media in your camera roll when an app explicitly saves it there.
To get it into Photos: open Files, tap Downloads, tap and hold the video, then choose Save to Photos. It will then appear in your camera roll and sync as normal.
If you tapped download and nothing seemed to happen, check the download icon in Safari's address bar. It shows recent downloads and tapping one opens its location.
Android
Straightforward: Chrome and most browsers save to the Downloads folder in internal storage. Open the Files app, or the Downloads shortcut in Chrome's menu, and it is there.
Your gallery app usually picks up new videos within a minute, on its next media scan. If it has not appeared after a few minutes, opening the file once from the Files app normally prompts the scan.
On Samsung devices the app is called My Files. On Pixel it is simply Files. Xiaomi ships File Manager. Same folder either way.
Windows
Everything lands in C:\Users\YourName\Downloads unless you changed the default. Fastest route is Ctrl+J in your browser, which opens the download list; clicking the folder icon next to an item opens it in Explorer.
Mac
The Downloads folder, reachable from the Dock or with Shift+Cmd+L in Finder. In Safari the download arrow appears near the address bar during and after a download.
Why the file sometimes seems to vanish
- You are looking in Photos on iPhone. By far the most common. Check Files instead.
- The gallery has not rescanned yet on Android. Wait a minute or open it once from Files.
- It is an MP3, not a video. Audio never appears in a photo gallery on either platform.
- Private or incognito browsing may not keep a visible download history, though the file itself still saves.
- Storage was full, in which case the download stops partway and the partial file may be removed.
Getting it into your library properly
For video on iPhone, use Save to Photos as above. For music on iPhone, open the MP3 from Files and share it into your player of choice, or add it via a computer.
On Android most music apps scan the Downloads folder automatically. If yours does not, move the file into a Music folder and trigger a rescan from the app's settings.
