How to Save Instagram Reels to Your Phone (2026 Guide)
Instagram offers a native download option for some public Reels when the creator allows it. When that option is missing, you can copy the public Reel link and use a browser-based downloader on iPhone or Android. This guide explains both routes and where your saved file goes.
First check the Reel's Share menu for a Download option. If it is unavailable, copy the public Reel link, paste it into the YouTubePrint Instagram Downloader, review the detected video and choose Download. Private, deleted or login-restricted Reels cannot be accessed.
When Instagram's Reel Download Option Is Unavailable
Some public Reels include a native Download action, but availability depends on the creator's settings, the Reel and your app or region. Instagram's Save button is different: it bookmarks the Reel inside your account and does not create a file in your phone's Downloads folder.
Only public Instagram Reels can be downloaded using these methods. Private account content cannot be accessed without logging in, and we do not support downloading private content.
Method 1: Use the YouTubePrint Instagram Downloader
The main Instagram downloader supports public Reels and video posts. For a Reel-only workflow, use the Instagram Reels downloader. Neither page asks for an Instagram login.
Copy the Instagram Reel link
Open Instagram and find the Reel you want to save. Tap the three-dot menu (…) in the top right of the Reel. Tap "Copy Link". The URL is now in your clipboard.
Open the Instagram downloader
Go to youtubeprint.com/instagram-downloader.html in Safari or Chrome. You can also use the focused Reels downloader.
Paste and check the public Reel
Paste the full instagram.com/reel/... link and choose Find Downloads. The page checks the Reel and shows the video format Instagram makes available.
Save to your Camera Roll (iPhone) or Gallery (Android)
iPhone: Safari normally downloads to the Files app. Open the file, tap Share and choose "Save Video" to add it to Photos.
Android: Chrome normally saves to Downloads. Open it from the download notification, Files app or Gallery.
Method 2: Instagram's Built-in Download or Save Options
Open the Reel's Share menu first. If a Download action appears, it can save the Reel to your device under Instagram's current rules and the creator's settings. If only Save appears, that option works as an in-app bookmark:
- Tap the bookmark icon below any Reel
- The Reel is saved to your "Saved" collection inside Instagram
- Access it in your profile → Saved
The Save bookmark is useful for finding the Reel again, but it does not place a standalone video in Files, Downloads or Photos. You can also lose access if the creator deletes or restricts the original Reel.
Method 3: Screen Recording (Lowest Quality)
Both iPhone and Android have built-in screen recording. While playing a Reel, start a screen recording to capture it. This works but produces lower quality than the original and includes your status bar and any interface elements visible on screen. It's a last resort when other methods don't work.
- iPhone: Control Centre → Screen Record button (add it in Settings → Control Centre if missing)
- Android: Pull down notification shade → Screen Recorder (varies by manufacturer)
How to Download Instagram Reels on iPhone (Step by Step)
iPhone users have one extra step compared to Android since Safari saves files to the Files app rather than Camera Roll by default.
- Open Safari (not the in-app Instagram browser)
- Go to the YouTubePrint Instagram Downloader
- Paste the Instagram Reel URL and tap Find Downloads
- Tap "Download" when Safari asks for confirmation
- Open the Files app → On My iPhone → Downloads
- Tap and hold the video → "Save to Photos"
How to Download Instagram Reels on Android (Step by Step)
- Open Chrome or your preferred browser
- Go to the YouTubePrint Instagram Downloader
- Paste the Reel URL and tap Find Downloads
- When the result appears, tap Download video and confirm the browser download if asked
- When complete, the video is in your Downloads folder and visible in your Gallery
Can I Download Instagram Reels Without Watermark?
YouTubePrint does not add a watermark to the downloaded file. The video's format and quality are whatever Instagram makes available for that supported public Reel.
If the creator added a username, logo or watermark to the video, it remains part of the available video and YouTubePrint does not remove it.
Can I Download Private Instagram Reels?
No. Private account content can only be seen by approved followers. Our tool, and all third-party tools, cannot access private content without a login, and we don't support that for privacy reasons. Only publicly posted Reels can be downloaded.
Copyright and Responsible Reel Downloads
Copyright, Instagram's terms and local law still apply after a download. The safest approach is to save your own Reel or content the rights holder has allowed you to download. Do not republish, sell, edit or claim someone else's work without permission. Attribution alone does not replace permission.

Open Instagram DownloaderFrequently Asked Questions
Why can't I find the downloaded Reel on my iPhone?
Downloaded videos go to the Files app (not Camera Roll by default). Open Files → On My iPhone → Downloads. From there, tap and hold the file and choose "Save to Photos" to move it to your Camera Roll.
The Reel won't download, what's wrong?
The most common cause is that the account is private. Only public Reels can be downloaded. Also check that you copied the Reel URL correctly, it should contain instagram.com/reel/ followed by a short code.
Can I download Instagram Stories?
Story downloads are not part of the current verified Instagram video workflow. Do not enter Instagram credentials into any downloader.
Does this work for regular Instagram video posts?
Yes. The main Instagram downloader accepts supported public /p/ links when the post contains one available video. Photo-only and carousel posts are not supported in this release.
